Case Study

Challenge

TechTrend was the prime supporting contractor in bringing commercial cloud computing services to the entire Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The mission was a very complex initiative that encompassed all aspects of IT, complying with FedRamp and integrating with existing FAA infrastructure and services. The acquisition included a potential customer base of approximately 300 systems, supporting 700 applications for both National Airspace System (NAS) and administrative systems.

Solution

Supporting the FAA Office of Chief Information Officer (OCIO), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), TechTrend provided technical/program management services aimed at acquiring and implementing commercial cloud computing services to support the consolidation and migration of applications. TechTrend helped the agency navigate the complexity of compliance with FedRAMP security controls, the Federal Data Center Consolidation Initiative (FDCCI), Cloud First policy, and the PortfolioStat initiative.

Results

The FAA successfully procured cloud computing services for the entire agency relying heavily on security, technical and acquisition documents developed by TechTrend. No agency received protests during the acquisition process.

Remarks of the FAA Cloud Program Manager: “I have had the pleasure of working with TechTrend for almost three years. TechTrend is continually responsive in meeting the needs of our very dynamic and demanding environment. The TechTrend employees that I have worked with have deep technical expertise and their dedication is unyielding in ensuring that the work gets accomplished in an exceptional manner.”
